Our team
As a group, we work hard to maintain a relaxed and supportive environment, preferring an emphasis on creative thinking instead of hours at the bench. We are always on the lookout for dynamic and creative individuals to join us. The group works best when we have a good gender balance, and we are 100% LGBTQ+ friendly.
Andrew Goodwin
Andrew is Professor of Materials Chemistry and University Research Professor at Oxford. He studied at Sydney and Cambridge before moving to the ICL in 2009.
Ana Fairbairn
Ana is the group PA. She is originally from Brazil and has studied nutrition in the UK. Ana was a PA in the Medical Sciences Division before joining the group.
Simon Cassidy
Simon is the Diffraction and Magnetometry Facility Supervisor in the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, and is in charge of the advanced diffraction facilities used in the group. He was both an MChem and DPhil student at Oxford, supervised by Simon Clarke.
John Cattermull
John is a DPhil student working jointly with the team of Mauro Pasta, based in Oxford’s Materials department. John is our Prussian Blue analogue expert and is working hard to make PBAs even better battery materials
Tom Nicholas
Tom is a joint DPhil student with Volker Deringer, working on applying machine learning techniques to develop smart potentials for amorphous metal–organic frameworks
Joe Morrow
Joe is a CDT DPhil student supervised by Volker Deringer and affiliated with our group. His project centres on developing understanding the structure of amorphous molybdenum sulfides
Quentin Gueroult
Quentin is a DPhil student and part of the 2021 cohort of OxICFM CDT. He was previously a Part II student in the group, carrying out a project in collaboration with F-X Coudert
Elodie Harbourne
Elodie is a DPhil student, cofunded by the UK XFEL hub, who is working on local structure problems in Prussian blue analogues.
Robert Paraoan
Robert is a DPhil student working on the lattice dynamics of Truchet-tile materials
Helena Barker
Helena is a Part II student working on the lattice dynamics and thermal diffuse scattering of NTE materials
Guy Greenbaum
Guy is a Part II student working on crystallisation and self-assembly of disordered metal–organic frameworks
Alen Maguire
Alen is a Part II student working on short- and long-range Jahn Teller order in layered cathode materials
Alice O’Connell
Alice is a Part II student working with Simon on stacking-faulted cobalt
Rebecca Witte
Becca is a Part II student working on magnetoelastic coupling in Prussian blues
Mario Ongkiko
Mario is a visiting PhD student from the Topology CDT at the University of Birmingham, where he is supervised by Prof Andrew Morris
